A Grand Intellectual Arena: Uzbekistan’s Educational Achievements Showcased at the Final Stage of “TasIMO–2026”

Today, the global competitiveness of nations is increasingly measured by the quality of their human capital, intellectual potential, and educational systems. In this regard, the development of exact sciences, the support of gifted youth, the promotion of STEM education, and the expansion of the international olympiad movement have become among the priority directions of Uzbekistan’s state education policy in recent years.

International experience demonstrates that science olympiads remain one of the most effective mechanisms for identifying talented students. Such competitions do not merely assess academic knowledge; they also cultivate logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills among young learners.

One of these major initiatives is TasIMO — the Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad, implemented through the initiative of the International Nordic University and the IDC Education Center. The project contributes to educational reforms in alignment with the United Nations and serves as a strong intellectual bridge connecting professors, educators, young mathematicians, and talented students in the implementation of the goals outlined in the “Uzbekistan–2030” Strategy.

TasIMO has evolved into a strategic educational platform that prepares students for independent thinking, deep analytical reasoning, and достойное participation in the global intellectual arena.

From 19 to 21 May 2026, the final stage of this prestigious international olympiad was organized at a high professional level at the Green Hills Resort mountain resort complex located in the Bo‘stonliq district of Tashkent region.

The event can be regarded not only as a competition among gifted students, but also as a practical manifestation of Uzbekistan’s openness in the international educational space, its academic integration, and its growing intellectual diplomacy.

This year’s final stage brought together 134 gifted young mathematicians selected from all 14 regions of Uzbekistan, along with 202 participants from countries including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Bulgaria, and others. As a result, the olympiad transformed into an international educational platform fostering intellectual cooperation among youth from different parts of the world.

The project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, UNICEF, Rowan University, and Karelia University of Applied Sciences.

The general sponsor of the olympiad was Asia Alliance Bank.

The official media partners included UzReport TV and the newspapers Xalq so‘zi and Narodnoye Slovo. Such broad cooperation once again demonstrated the strengthening integration between the state, private sector, and international institutions within Uzbekistan’s education system.

The TasIMO program was designed as a three-day comprehensive intellectual festival aimed at preparing students for international olympiads, identifying talented youth at an early stage, and establishing a new support system for gifted learners. Special emphasis was placed not only on mathematical knowledge but also on developing analytical thinking, strategic decision-making, and rapid reasoning competencies.

On 18 May, local and international participants were officially welcomed in Tashkent and transported to the Green Hills Resort complex, where they were accommodated.

On 19 May, the official opening ceremony of the olympiad took place. The event was attended by the Rector of International Nordic University, Sherzod Mustafakulov, representatives of UNICEF, Asia Alliance Bank, UzReport TV, IDC Education Center, foreign guests, and partner organizations.

[During the ceremony, participants received detailed information regarding modern educational trends, international academic opportunities, and the preparation of competitive professionals for the innovation-driven economy.

All finalists who had successfully advanced to the decisive stage of the olympiad were wished success in the upcoming intellectual challenges.

Following the opening ceremony, participants were assigned to examination halls according to grade levels, and the olympiad officially commenced. Students from grades 3–9 completed a 90-minute mathematical contest, while participants from grades 10–11 took part in a more advanced 4.5-hour competition. The problems were specifically designed to assess logical reasoning, algorithmic thinking, and analytical capabilities.

Transparency and international standards served as the key principles throughout the event. Particular attention was paid to fairness, openness, and objectivity during all olympiad procedures.

The results were announced immediately after the completion of the olympiad, while the appeals committee continued its work until late evening hours. This approach significantly strengthened trust among participants, teachers, and parents.

Importantly, the primary goal of the olympiad extended beyond academic achievement alone; it also focused on personal development and character formation. One of the most distinctive features of TasIMO–2026 was the creation of a comprehensive social and developmental environment alongside the academic competition itself.

Within the framework of the olympiad, participants engaged in problem-analysis sessions, appeals discussions, intellectual dialogues, and interactive workshops. These activities enabled students to analyze their mistakes independently, draw conclusions, and develop self-improvement skills.

In addition, sports competitions, the intellectual game “Zakovat,” concert and entertainment programs, kite-flying activities, tug-of-war contests, team-based challenges, nature excursions, “Pizza Party” events, and interactive programs inspired by the “Squid Game” format contributed to the development of leadership, teamwork, and communication competencies among participants.

Indeed, within today’s modern education system, emotional intelligence, social adaptability, and global thinking are regarded as equally important alongside academic excellence. In this respect, TasIMO has proven itself to be one of the most progressive educational initiatives successfully implementing this holistic approach in practice.

The olympiad is increasingly becoming an intellectual brand of Uzbekistan.

Representatives of ministries, the Academy of Sciences, the diplomatic corps, and international organizations participated in the award ceremony honoring the winners. According to experts, the TasIMO international intellectual platform plays a significant role in strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in global education rankings, supporting gifted youth, and enhancing the nation’s human capital potential.

Most importantly, the olympiad once again demonstrated to young people that through science and education it is possible to pursue great ambitions, compete on a global scale, and contribute to the future development of the country through intellectual progress.

TasIMO also contributed to reducing disparities between regions by creating equal opportunities for every talented child. Even students from the most remote rural areas were given the chance to demonstrate their abilities and enter the international intellectual stage.
