The third and final round of the Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad (TasIMO) took place on May 18-19 of this year at the International Nordic University (NIU).
With the intention of facilitating educational reforms in alignment with the "Sustainable Development Goals" of the United Nations and performing priority plans for the advancement of the education system in the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy, NIU and IDC (Intelligence Development Center) educational center jointly organized this international Olympiad for the first time. UzReport TV, Rowan University (United States), Karelia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), and the World Bank and UNICEF cooperated on its organization.
On May 17, a group of 300 students, both local and international, ranging from grades 3 to 11, who had been recommended for the final stage of the Tasimo Olympiad, came in our capital city, accompanied by their parents and instructors. The NIU administration, officials, and volunteers greeted them warmly, according to the traditional customs of hospitality. Each participant received an Olympiad program, as well as distinctive clothing and accessories that served as a reminder of their participation in the competition.
It really uplifted the spirits of the young individuals and their family members.

The Olympiad was ceremoniously opened.
The opening ceremony of the final (third) stage of the Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad took place on May 18, in the magnificently decorated square in front of the university. The event included speeches from Professor Sherzod Mustafakulov, the Rector of NIU, officials from the World Bank and UNICEF, Ravshan Joraev, the CEO of UzReport TV station, and Ozod Zoirov, the director of IDC educational center. It was acknowledged that young mathematicians from many regions of our country enthusiastically took part in the prestigious Olympiad, which intended to identify individuals with genuine knowledge. They conveyed a sense of assurance that this competition would effectively engage individuals possessing mathematical expertise to contribute to the development of society.
During the ceremony, students who accomplished the essential final stage were enthusiastically welcomed. The organizers stated that this Olympiad is conducted annually in a traditional manner to students' early interest in specific sciences, discovering young talents, educating students from general education schools to become competent individuals in all areas, and fostering the development of skillful observation, analytical thinking, and logical thinking abilities. They extend their best wishes to all the participants, hoping for success and triumph in their educational pursuits.
Afterward, the final stage of TasIMO began. Students from 14 administrative areas, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan, several regions, and the city of Tashkent, participated in the Olympiad with students from nations around the world. The students were separated into two groups for the competition.
The competition was held on May 18-19. The procedures of the students in the third to ninth grades were arranged in the open air under supervision of judges and lasted 90 minutes according to standard. Competitions between 10th and 11th grades, in particular, encouraged young mathematicians to have a high level of knowledge and competence. For 4.5 hours, young bright students worked on solutions and tasks. Crucially, the testing of the participants happened under exactly the same circumstances and opportunities. Everything occurred under the direct surveillance of the mass media and public control. After the Olympiad, the students who participated had the chance to familiarize themselves with the task solutions.
Following the Olympiad contests, cultural and entertainment activities were arranged for students and parents over a period of two days. According to the participants ' preferences, NIU student volunteers coordinated various sporting activities, including tug-of-war, kite flying, and other national games. Specifically, the excursion to the Alley of Writers and the State Circus of Uzbekistan in our capital city provided young people with fresh knowledge and enjoyable moments. Furthermore, participants experienced the emergence of new objectives due to psychological training facilitated by professors from NIU. During activities like the "Pizza Party", students enjoyed the company of new acquaintances, engaged in talks, and made their Olympiad experience enjoyable and unforgettable.
The prestigious competition allowed students to demonstrate their abilities, gain valuable experience and new knowledge, and meet the world's best mathematicians. It also served to develop the participants' mental, creative, and analytical thinking skills. The Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad gained priority with academic excellence, dynamism, supporting creative innovations, and discovering and encouraging a new generation of young talents.

The winners were appropriately honored with awards. An award ceremony took place on May 20 at the Palace of Youth Creativity in our capital city to honor the winners of the Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad as well as local and international participants who made significant contributions.
The Uzbekistan National Anthem was performed at the formal event.
The honoring ceremony highlighted the significant promotion of gifted young people and their accomplishments, enhancing our country's focus on education.
The event attendees were provided with a statistical infographic illustrating the procedures involved in carrying out each stage of TasIMO and the outcomes achieved by both local and international participants. During the conference, NIU Rector Sherzod Mustafakulov recognized that this Olympiad has initiated a beneficial international competition among young mathematicians in our country. He also affirmed that this commendable tradition will be upheld in the future, contributing to the advancement of science, social and educational effectiveness, and the achievements of young individuals. He discussed his forthcoming intentions.
During the ceremony, Odil Abdurahmanov, the head of the Department of Social Development of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, offered heartfelt congratulations to the winning students and extended his best wishes. He awarded the champions of the 10th-11th grade Tasimo competition with gold, silver, and bronze medals, according to their respective 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place rankings. The gifts given included vouchers, flowers, certificates, and distinctive presents that provided the opportunity to study at Nordic International University with a full scholarship. The students awarded the medals have a promising and prominent future ahead of them since they will be studying at an esteemed university in collaboration with Finland.
Kungirotboy Sharipov, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, was asked to deliver a speech at the award event. He congratulated the young winners who were fortunate enough to be recognized as our esteemed ancestors. Awards have been given to the winners in grades 9-8.
Subsequently, Hilola Umarova, the Minister of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Surayyo Rahmonova, the Human Rights Representative of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Sherzod Mustafakulov, the Rector of NIU, had been called to the stage, where they ceremoniously presented awards to all the winners from the lower grades. The younger generation, the true intellectuals, have been given a deserving boost. The parents and instructors felt a great sense of pride due to the winners being awarded valuable presents and being held in respect.
TasIMO will continue to discover young talents in the coming years. After all, where there is a will, there is a way!
For information, a total of 75,114 applicants participated in the first online stage of TasIMO held on February 25. A total of 18,279 students were recommended for the second stage of the Olympiad.
In the second stage of the Olympiad held on March 31, students of grades 3-11, selected from 14 administrative regions, competed with their foreign peers online. A total of 10,916 applicants from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent participated, and 6,424 of them managed to send their answers on time. Also, 496 applicants from 43 foreign countries have registered to participate in the Olympiad. 276 applicants from 24 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Turkey, Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Laos, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Indonesia, Finland, Tajikistan, Angola and other countries actively participated.
300 students were recommended for the third stage of the Olympiad. On May 18-19, the Olympiad's final stage was organized offline at the base of Nordic International University in Tashkent.
The Tashkent International Mathematics Olympiad had a prize fund of 450 million soums. The organizers took every effort to ensure that the Olympiad process was conducted at a high standard, including engaging and inspiring events for the participants.
Preparing for the Olympiad requires an important amount of knowledge and consistent effort. Consequently, the Olympiad's official page was established on the Telegram social network, where proficient instructors from the IDC and Karakol Ziya educational centers delivered online classes. Additionally, exam assignments were shared in the virtual classrooms. This intervention enhanced participants' mathematical thinking and overall problem-solving abilities. This act of kindness will continue throughout the year.
