The event was jointly organized by the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC), the Children’s Ombudsman of Uzbekistan, the International Nordic University, and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
The forum focused on promoting a culture of safe migration among young people, while raising awareness of the risks associated with irregular migration, human trafficking, fraud, and labour exploitation. Addressing the participants, Sattor Rahmatov, Head of the Children’s Ombudsman Sector, Rahmatulla Nurimbetov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdoms of Sweden, Norway and Denmark, Professor Sherzod Mustafakulov, Rector of the International Nordic University, along with leading experts, emphasized the growing importance of legal awareness, access to reliable information, and informed decision-making for young people pursuing education or employment opportunities abroad in today’s increasingly globalized world.
Representatives of the MRC presented an overview of the Centre’s decade-long activities, highlighting safe migration planning mechanisms and available advisory services. Experts from the NGO “Istiqbolli Avlod” delivered presentations aimed at increasing awareness of irregular migration, deceptive job offers, and the threats posed by human trafficking networks.
During interactive sessions, students analysed real-life migration scenarios and employment offers, strengthening their ability to identify potential risks and make informed choices. Dedicated digital safety workshops also explored methods for recognizing fraudulent online advertisements, verifying information sources, and protecting oneself from online scams circulating through social media platforms.
The final assessment demonstrated a significant increase in participants’ knowledge and awareness regarding migration, children’s rights, and personal safety. The event contributed to enhancing legal literacy, fostering safe migration competencies, and encouraging a culture of responsible decision-making among young people.
The forum was organized within the framework of the MRC’s 10th anniversary and aligned with the objectives of the “PROTECT – Improving Migration Management and Migrant Protection in the Silk Routes Countries and Central Asia” project, implemented by ICMPD with the support of the European Union. The initiative aims to strengthen the protection of youth rights, promote safe, orderly and regular migration, and enhance cooperation among public institutions, educational organizations, and civil society actors in addressing contemporary migration challenges.
