A constructive and cordial meeting was held between the leadership of Nordic International University and the Journalists’ Union of Uzbekistan, marking an important step towards strengthening the integration of journalism education and professional media practice.

The discussions focused on the evolving demands of the contemporary media landscape, the need to reinforce the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical training in journalism education, unlocking the professional potential of young people, and bringing the expertise of accomplished journalists more directly into the academic environment.

During the meeting, Sherzod Mustafakulov, Rector of Nordic International University, and Shuhratjon Oripov, Chairman of the Journalists’ Union of Uzbekistan, signed a Corporate Cooperation Agreement aimed at enhancing the professional training of undergraduate journalism students, expanding practical learning opportunities, and advancing innovative media projects.

At the heart of this agreement is a commitment to move beyond classroom-based learning by immersing future journalists in authentic editorial environments, professional standards, and contemporary media production processes.

Under the partnership, students will have the opportunity to undertake professional and academic internships at Hurriyat newspaper, established by the Journalists’ Union of Uzbekistan, and the National Press Centre. They will also benefit from mentorship by experienced journalists and participate in masterclasses, professional training sessions, and open discussions.

The collaboration further envisages the development of practical competencies in key areas of contemporary journalism, including news reporting, correspondence, interviewing, feature and investigative reporting, multimedia production, photography and videography, podcasting, data journalism, fact-checking, and digital security.

Another significant dimension of the partnership is the opportunity to develop joint media initiatives, creative laboratories, media hackathons, special editorial columns, and multimedia content with active student involvement. Providing talented young people with access to internships, career development events, and direct engagement with prospective employers will also remain among the key priorities.

The agreement will also contribute to aligning Nordic University's academic programmes more closely with the evolving needs of the media industry, facilitating the expert review of teaching and learning materials, organising joint academic and practical events, and strengthening the professional expertise of the University's academic staff.
