A masterclass on “Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Journalism” was organised for first-year master’s students specialising in Journalism.

The session was delivered by Otabek Usmon, Chief Specialist at the Research Institute for the Development of Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence under the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Using practical examples, the speaker explored the impact of artificial intelligence on the media industry, highlighting its applications in information retrieval and analysis, as well as the creation of textual and visual content through advanced digital tools.

Key contemporary issues, including fact-checking, copyright protection, disinformation and algorithmic bias, were also addressed. Particular emphasis was placed on a fundamental principle: while artificial intelligence can significantly expand journalists’ capabilities, the accuracy of information and professional accountability must remain firmly under human oversight.

Through an engaging interactive discussion and Q&A session, master’s students gained valuable insights into not only applying digital technologies but also using them responsibly and ethically in professional journalistic practice.
